We recognise that the LGBTQIA+ community in India faces significant challenges. While one's sexual orientation or gender identity are not mental health concerns, the discrimination and stigma about them may put individuals at risk for mental health issues. Concerns about being outed, fear of being judged, inaccessibility and unaffordability of mental health care, may make it difficult for individuals to seek psychological help. Individuals may feel isolated and alone if there is no supportive family and friend structure.

One of our past projects has been SAAHAS, a free therapy group for individuals who identify as being on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. We used techniques of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy combined with an LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy approach. Our aim was to provide a safe non- judgemental space for individuals where they can be a part of a social support network of peers with similar concerns. We aimed to help individuals to work on their mental health issues and also to build emotional resilience.

We are no longer running this therapy group. However, we are committed to evidence based research driven interventions, that others can learn from and replicate. Our publication about the SAAHAS group and its efficacy can be seen here. Our paper on the online adaptation can be seen here. Our paper on our module on Building Resilience can be seen here
